Vancouver Creation Con Report 2/4
Part Two
Friday April 3rd
On Friday, the con really kicked into gear. With panels from David Nkyl, Dan Shea, Connor Trinneer, and Teryl Rothery, we were kept incredibly busy. My memory of these panels is hazy at best, I was still quite overwhelmed from the previous days venture. I swear I make up for it later on!
David spoke quite a bit what Atlantis means to him. For him, it's about the people. Yes it's a job, you're working, but they weren't in the habit of taking themselves seriously. He loved the banter between Zelenka and McKay and wished the series could have injected more of that towards the end of the show. Half way through the panel he received a Twitter message from David Hewlett saying "Radek Who?". So David (Nykl) invited all of us to twitter back with "Rodney who?"

Dan Shea does *not* stop moving! He's the Duracell bunny on crack. Taking pictures of him was trying and I gave up half way through. Following his train of thought is about as successful as trying to take those pictures of him. One particular story I remember is how he left his cellphone on whilst on set. It was pretty early on, and it was during a pretty emotional scene for Richard Dean Anderson. But being RDA's "boy" he was forgiven. Or so he thought. Rick apparently waited 8 months to get him back for this blunder. He waited until Siler actually had a few lines, and made sure that Dan Shea's phone was switched on during take, and then kept calling him throughout the scene.

What stands out about Connor Trinneer's panel is how he vowed after his run on Enterprise that he was going to steer clear of Sci-Fi for a while. But he happened to see the character breakdown for 'Michael, and he was so intrigued that he called his agent and asked him if he could get him an audition. But it never got to that. His agent called him back momentarilly and told him the producers of Atlantis say "It's yours if you'd like it."

Teryl had me in such stitches it's a miracle I can remember anything! She's such a cheeky monkey. And a flirt! And a serious hoot! She talked a lot about Janet, she did a little Turlene for us, and explained that she and Amanda had to just find ways to be "girls" in their downtime because they spent so much time "in a man's world". She entertained us with a story about how Chris Judge became trapped in his own spacesuit after he'd - uh - broken wind that he finally learned just how foul he really was! She talked about the day she learned that Janet would be killed off. That Rob and Brad had told her they wanted to shake things up as they thought the series was coming to a close. She got a little choked up on stage because her reaction was to tell them to kill Hammond instead, and that led to her telling us she phoned Don S Davis straight away to tell him what she'd said. She told us she missed him. I swear everytime someone even mentioned Don Davis I got weepy! Teryl's favourite role now is being a mom - at first she found it incredulous that she was even pregnant and took the test twice to be sure, all the while glaring at her other half. She's still tap dancing, and teaching choreography.
Best memory of Teryl is standing in the autograph line. I'm with

samjackshiploveand in front of us is a cute guy. Teryl - being Teryl - is now trying to find someone to set him up with because he's single.

nulltells Teryl she's too old for him (Teryl admonishes her for revealing her true age and waves her magic wand lopping 6 years off her life), although come to think of it I'm not sure if she mentioned she also had a boyfriend hmm.
samjackshiplovesays she's married. And there's me... perfectly up for a little inter-continental flirting. So Teryl's like "There ya go, get in there!" Match making ala Rothery.
And she's my height! She was wearing big shoes in the photo op whilst I was wearing flats. We had a bit of a "Hey, it's a me-sized person" moment.

Friday night was the Cabaret. Hosted by Dan Shea, with hilarious antics from Connor Trineer and Robert Picardo. I didn't take my camera in this time round as my arm needed a break. I was sitting 8 rows back and in the middle, so due to the sea of heads in front of me my arm spent a lot of time shooting up and over everybody.
